I hit the road as a classical singer after graduating from New England Conservatory in Boston in 1991. After years of performing in concerts, churches and opera in Central Europe, I was invited to teach musical theater at a conservatory in Vienna, Austria. I didn't realize it then, but I was embarking on an rich and exciting adventure. Helping other singers find their authentic voice, musicality, and confidence had a powerful impact on my life!
But, I wasn't content to teach just what I had done for myself. I wasn't content to just help some people some of the time. I wasn't content to have my students singing "nicely." I wanted to learn the nuts and bolts of teaching, learning, vocal science, cognition and emotional intelligence. I wanted to work with a wide range of singers and artists in every area they needed to find success.
Now I want to train you to be a transformational teacher, too.
Here's what you'll learn.
This is an intensive, 12 week training program.. We'll meet live in an online masterclass once a week. In that class, we'll review concepts for the week, answer questions and TEACH. You're teaching will be observed and you'll get immediate feedback. You'll also observe others teaching.
During the week, you'll access a sophisticated, modern learning platform with videos, concepts, quizzes and opportunities to send videos of your teaching for evaluation and feedback.
Module One.
- What is voice teaching? What is the overarching goal of taking voice training?
- Evaluating your own Point-of-View. What are your strengths and weakness? How can you unlock your own singing and artistry?
- How to assess students
- How to build your income as side hustle or as a teaching career. How to set up the "business" of voice teaching so you can earn what you need.
Module Two
- Anatomy, physiology and biomechanics
- Acoustic science applied to voice teaching
- How to make a lesson plan based on what the singer is doing in the moment.
Module Three
- How to choose exercises that change singers' habits quickly and effectively.
- How to choose songs/repertoire and keys that showcase the singer, help the singer grow, or prepare the singers' career needs.
Module Four
- Learning neuroscience. Understanding how singers learn effectively.
- Coaching expression, interpretation and performance skills
- Creating your unique identity as a voice teacher so you can enroll students, build a studio or even start your own school.
